The University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers a variety of excellent programs of study for around 22,000 students and confronts the important topics of our time through excellent research across a broad spectrum of sciences.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in the context of the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence - hessian.AI invites applications for a
Professorship (W 3) for Artificial Intelligence
to be filled at the earliest possible date.
We are looking for a person with international experience who is committed to research and teaching in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The person to be appointed should preferably have an outstanding track record in the field of "Multiscale/Multimodal Modeling and Machine Learning". This involves the development of machine learning methods for multimodal problems (e.g., images, speech, text, sensor data), taking into account data and models on multiple scales.
Thus, there is particular interest in a person that establishes cross-references between existing research groups, strengthen the scientific network within the department, and complement the existing research spectrum in a meaningful way. The person should be highly motivated to cooperate with other faculties, scientific centers and research priorities of the University of Marburg, such as in the areas of digital humanities, medicine, biology, psychology/psychiatry or neuroscience, environmental modelling and climate change and/or material science. The candidate should also demonstrate experience in initiating, acquiring and carrying out third-party funded projects of substantial scope, and should be interested in research with high relevance to applications. The professorship is responsible for providing coursework in the areas of expertise mentioned above. In addition, the individual is expected to participate in the computer science education of students in the bachelor’s and master’s programs of the department.
The future holder of the professorship is a member of the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence ("hessian.AI") and provides his/her research services within the center. The center, which is supported by 13 Hessian universities of different types, bundles the existing strengths in AI research in Hesse, Germany. The state of Hesse is providing 38 million euros for the five-year start-up phase and is permanently establishing a total of 20 additional professorships. The goal of the center is to provide excellent basic research in AI, concrete practical relevance with answers to important challenges of our time, and transfer to the economy and society.
The hiring requirements of §§ 67 und 68 HessHG apply. The Philipps-Universität Marburg puts great importance to the intensive supervision of students and doctoral candidates and expects a pronounced presence at the university from the teaching staff.
