Goethe University Frankfurt am Main invites applications for the position of
Professor (W3) of Experimental Solid State Physics with a Focus on Correlated Electronic Materials
in the Institute of Physics at the Faculty of Physics. This civil servant or public employee position will start on April 1, 2025.
We are looking for an internationally recognized personality in the field of experimental solid state physics with a focus on strongly correlated electron systems (early succession to Prof. Michael Lang). Ideally, you will have experience with measurements of thermodynamic quantities, possibly supplemented by measurements of transport properties, at low temperatures, high magnetic fields and pressures. The development of innovative experiments such as measurements under anisotropic strain/stress is desirable.
We expect an internationally visible research profile, proven by corresponding publications and successful acquisition of third-party funding, as well as active collaboration with the experimental and theoretical research groups in the field of condensed matter physics in Frankfurt. We also expect active participation in the collaborative research center SFB/TRR288 "Elastic Tuning and Response of Electronic Quantum Phases of Matter", which was established in 2020.
In your application, please outline your specific ideas for embedding the planned research activities in the local environment and the Collaborative Research Center SFB/TR288 and, if applicable, any proposals for establishing new collaborative research projects, especially within the Rhine-Main-University (RMU) network.
The Institute of Physics offers courses for physics majors and minors. We expect committed participation in the teaching tasks of the Institute of Physics with innovative teaching concepts as well as in the academic self-administration of the Institute and the Department. The professorship is also involved in teacher training; experience and concepts for teaching subject content in schools are welcome.
The formal hiring requirements are defined in sections 67, and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
Goethe University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion. In particular, we are welcoming applications by qualified women and people with a migrant background. At Goethe University, a special emphasis is placed on creating and sustaining a family-friendly work and research environment. Where applicants are otherwise equally qualified, preference is given to candidates with disabilities or equivalent. The same applies to women in fields in which they are under-represented.
To apply, please submit a CV, a list of publications, an overview of your research and teaching activities as well as transcripts and a selection of recent course evaluations online at
